One company that has changed the electric vehicle industry forever is Tesla. If you are planning to buy the Tesla Model 3 and you wonder what the EV, which has become the best-selling battery-electric vehicle ever, has to offer, keep reading the rest of this article.

The Tesla Model 3 is an electric sedan offering robust performance and excellent handling. It is perfect as a family car.

Battery/range/charging time

Tesla usually does not release its cars’ battery capacity. However, it offers estimated driving ranges, backed by the US Environmental Protection Agency, EPA. The standard Model 3 offers 267 miles before the battery runs out. But if you upgrade to the Long Range, you can drive 334 miles between charges. The Performance version sits between the two, offering 315 miles.

There is plenty enough range for your daily needs, whichever version of this EV you choose.

You can charge the Model 3 with most Level 2 chargers, which will take about eight hours to get to 100 percent. But you can charge a lot faster with Tesla’s Superchargers, available globally, adding up to 175 miles in just 15 minutes. The car has a feature that plans your route to never be too far from a public charger until you reach your destination. However, you can take advantage of other public chargers, thanks to the inclusion of a CCS charging port.

Electric motor

The standard Model 3 uses a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle. This setup is powerful enough to propel the car from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds and has a top speed of 140 mph. The Long Range version has a two-electric motor system that reduces the 0 to 60 mph acceleration time to 4.2 seconds and increases the top speed to 145 mph.

As the name implies, the Performance version is even faster and will reach 60 mph from zero in just 3.1 seconds. The top speed is bumped up to 162 mph.

The Model 3 is rated for towing, which is not typical for EVs. It can pull up to 910 kg behind it.

Interior/infotainment

Inside, Tesla sticks to a minimalist theme, although you will still feel comfortable. There is no dedicated instrument cluster on the dashboard, but there is a large center display where you can keep track of things like speed, battery level, etc. It is also where you access the car settings by tapping on buttons on the touchscreen.

The screen also serves as a rearview display, entertainment (music, movies, and games), navigation, 360-degree surround view, etc. The car comes with Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, Twitch, and more pre-installed, but you can only access them when the vehicle is in park mode.

The seats are comfortable, and there is room for five riders while being all-vegan. Tesla allows you to choose between all black and back-and-white for the interior colors. You will also appreciate the premium sound coming from 13 speakers and a subwoofer.

There is enough leg and headroom and about 425 liters of cargo space when combining the front and rear storage.

A glass roof allows you to watch the sky as you drive, but it protects you from the glare of the sun.

Other features include power-adjustable front seats, heated front, and rear seats, heated steering wheel, and interior floor mats. You will also get LED fog lamps, custom driver profiles, heated side mirrors, wireless charging for your phones, and 4 USB-C ports.

Add-on/perks/upgrades

If the vanilla experience of this electric vehicle is not good enough for you, Tesla offers several upgrades. The most popular is Full Self-Driving, which costs $12,000. It offers navigation on Autopilot, Auto Lane Change, Autopark, Summon, Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control, etc.

You may also go for 20-inch Uberturbine Wheels, Performance Brakes, Carbon fiber spoiler, aluminum alloy pedals, Track Mode, etc.

Color options include Pearl White, Midnight Silver Metallic, Deep Blue Metallic, Solid Black, and Red Multicoat.

Tesla offers a mobile app that you can use to control and monitor the Model 3.

All Tesla cars get over-the-air updates, and you can be sure your Model 3 will get better even after you have taken delivery.

Cost

The Model 3 is the most affordable electric vehicle sold by Tesla. The standard version starts at $44,990, while the Long Range trim costs $51,990. If you prefer the Performance model, you will be parting with $58,990. Bear in mind that Tesla may change these prices.

You can order a Tesla Model 3 from the company’s website, where you can custom-build your order.
